Latrobe Valley Repair Café

The Latrobe Valley Repair Café is an initiative of the Morwell Neighbourhood House. It brings together volunteer repairers who are willing to share their skills and knowledge with people who are passionate about our environment, want to learn how to fix/mend/repair their items, or are looking to find ways to reduce the amount we contribute to landfill each year.

The Repair Café doesn’t charge for repairs. It is offered in the spirit of the gift economy where we hope to share what we know and can do with our community.

This project is supported by the Circular Economy Communities Fund. The Fund is delivered by Sustainability Victoria under the Victorian Government’s circular economy plan, Recycling Victoria: a new economy.

Why repair?

We throw away enormous amounts of stuff! In a world of fast fashion and single use products, we’ve become used to the idea of discarding items rather than repairing them. Often, items go to landfill despite having very little wrong with them.

By repairing, fixing, and mending items, we can:
✔ give items a second life or extend their lifespan
✔ reduce the amount of waste headed for landfill
✔ and save money.

A Community Space

Our Repair Café is not limited to just fixing things. This is a share and learn space.

For those who may not have anything that needs ‘fixing’ but are curious to learn more or see how repairs are done, you are very welcome to join us. You can have a cuppa, speak to our talented and skilled volunteer repairers, or just have a look around the Neighbourhood House.

You might be able to play an instrument or be a history buff with stories from yesteryear to share with someone who is keen to listen. Maybe you have skills in sharpening tools, sewing and mending, repairing string instruments, or fixing small battery operated or electrical items and would like to volunteer.

Whatever your reason, we would love to have you along.
